Hope in times of crisis

he United States, the most powerful nation in the world, has faced and will continue to face increasingly profound economic crises, like a cycle of ups and downs that will especially impact the pockets of the common citizen. The decisions of its leaders will have a direct impact on this country’s economy. Whatever reasons lead the president to take misguided actions, believing they are the right ones, they will cause the fall of this modern empire. It is evident that these decisions will not only affect this global power but also the rest of the world, as all nations are interconnected. What a powerful nation does resonates with others, and the actions of one nation can influence the welfare or crisis of others.

In times of great economic need, many seek quick fixes, such as a change in leadership or policies. However, the true solution to the problems we face does not lie in a new president or economic reforms. The real and lasting way out can only come from a profound transformation that breaks with the culture of wastefulness and acknowledges that all wealth, gold, and silver belong to God. Even though today large corporations and financial institutions own most of the world’s wealth, at the end of times, that wealth will return to its original owner. Haggai 2:8 says, “The silver is mine and the gold is mine,” declares the Lord Almighty.

When our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ returns to earth, He will establish a Kingdom of justice and equity that will extend to the ends of the world. In this Divine Government, there will be no room for inequality or scarcity, for God will provide for all our needs. On that day, everyone will have enough, and there will be no more suffering or poverty. This is the hope that sustains believers, even when current circumstances seem bleak.

For now, as we wait for the fulfillment of this divine promise, what we can do as God’s people is unite in prayer and fasting, seeking answers from the Creator. As a holy nation and a people chosen by God, we have the power to influence the nations of the world by doing what our Heavenly Father has called us to do. The Bible assures us that if Christians cry out to God, He will hear and respond to us. “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3. God does not want His people to suffer unnecessarily; He is our hope in times of crisis and has promised that His children will not lack their daily bread. Every born-again Christian is a special treasure to God; we are not strangers to Him—we are His children.

Therefore, it is time to do what we know we must do: pray without ceasing. Our trust should not be placed in human solutions but in the Lord, who made heaven and earth. “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:1-2.

When should we act, and when should we wait?

Many Christians feel the need to “act” to find a solution to the crisis. Some participate in politics, others protest in the streets, or seek alternatives on their own to change their situation. However, the Word of God invites us to a different response—one that involves faith and trust in His promises.

Over three thousand years ago, the people of Israel tried to act without God’s consent, and this attitude provoked the Lord’s anger. Although, in similar situations, many of us might have acted the same way, the lesson it leaves us is clear. The prophet Isaiah wrote, “This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses.’ Therefore, you will flee! You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’ Therefore, your pursuers will be swift!” Isaiah 30:15-16.

This is an invitation to trust in God, even when immediate action seems like the best option. God calls us to rest in Him and believe that, in His time, He will provide the solution.

Yes, it is time to act, but not in the ways of the world, rather according to God’s will. Our Heavenly Father is not impressed by crowds raising their hands or shouting in unison but by the genuine faith His children demonstrate in their daily lives. Faith, which can be defined as “complete trust in God’s promises,” is the most effective way to overcome distress. For God has promised never to leave or forsake us, as Hebrews 13:5 reminds us: “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”

This does not mean that money will miraculously fall from the sky, but that even in the worst global economic crisis, believers will have something many others will not: the peace that surpasses all understanding. That peace sustains us and gives us the certainty that God is in control, even when circumstances seem out of control.

Perhaps you have lost your job, or your business is on the brink of collapse, but you must know that you are not alone. This is not a battle you face by yourself, and even if you feel that no one else understands your pain, many people are going through similar or even harder situations.

Transforming our anguish into joy is not easy, but it is not impossible either. The burdens and worries we share become lighter. Your brother’s need becomes your own, and your burden becomes your brother’s. Together, we can endure hard times more easily. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12. If we unite our efforts and do what God has called us to do, we will overcome this crisis and any other that comes our way because we know God is on our side.

The true hope of Christians does not lie in political changes or economic reforms but in the certainty that God is present and active in our lives. This hope motivates us to keep going, to pray, to trust, and to wait for God’s answer with faith. Even when we face difficult times, our eyes must remain fixed on Him who promised to care for us and guide us to the very end.
