Amid these difficulties, it’s common to feel as though the world is crumbling around us, that there is no way forward, and that life has become an endless series of problems. As Christians, we are not exempt from such situations; in fact, the Bible warns us that following Christ will bring tribulations. In the book of Acts, we are told: “They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. ‘We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,’ they said.” Acts 14:21-22.
While Scripture makes it clear that it is “necessary” to go through tribulations, no one in daily life wishes to suffer. We are not naturally inclined to face seemingly unsolvable problems. Pain, anguish, and uncertainty are experiences we all seek to avoid. However, even though we may not want to endure such trials, God, in His infinite mercy, has laid out a way of escape in the midst of each difficulty. The question is: how do we find that way?
Throughout biblical history, many men and women of God faced extremely difficult situations, to the point of feeling that death was imminent and that no help was possible around them. Yet they did something that very few of us do: they cried out to God from the depths of their being. In 2 Samuel 22:7, David writes: “In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.” This expression by David does not refer to a routine prayer but to a cry—a deep, intense plea from the depths of his soul.
Crying out is not merely praying; it is a heartfelt cry, a desperate plea that expresses our total dependence on God. David, a servant who faced countless difficulties, knew the power of crying out. He literally fled for his life, hiding in caves while an army pursued him. He endured hunger, betrayal, and long periods of uncertainty, believing his suffering would never end. Yet it was in those moments of greatest despair that he cried out to God and found answers.
Crying out is a spiritual tool that can only be used by those who truly need it. It is not for those with stable jobs, no debts, and who consider themselves “good” Christians deserving of God’s blessings. This divine resource is available for those who feel powerless, overwhelmed by problems, and filled with anguish.
If you are going through the worst situation of your life, use this resource. It is not complicated: weep, plead, beg, and humble yourself before God like never before. Pour out your heart to Him; don’t settle for a superficial prayer. Express your need and acknowledge that you cannot face the situation alone, that you need His help and strength. Approach God with a humble spirit, without demanding or complaining, for that is arrogance. Remember: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalms 34:18.
Cry out to God for His help.
God hears the sincere plea that comes from the depths of the heart, and as the loving Father that He is, He will provide what you need, though not always what you desire. Sometimes, God allows us to face difficult situations to teach us to rely solely on Him and not on our own strength or possessions. He may permit our income to diminish or illness to enter our homes to show us that our trust should not be in a job or the help of others but only in His divine provision.
If you need work, God will open the necessary doors for you to find a job. If you need food for your family, He will not give you a stone instead of bread. However, it is essential to seek, knock, and, above all, cry out to the Lord in your moments of distress. When you feel like you can’t go on, remember that His hand of mercy can lift you from the pit of despair and bring you to a place of peace.
A sincere cry does not go unnoticed by God. He sees your tears, hears your plea, and knows the depth of your pain. But He also knows what is best for you and will respond at the right time. Sometimes God’s response may not be immediate, leading us to think we are alone. However, He never abandons His children. In the silence, God is working, and His plan is always perfect.
Perhaps you feel your situation is unbearable, that your strength is gone, and despair has taken hold of your life. But God specializes in transforming anguish into peace and hopelessness into hope. He has promised never to leave or forsake us. As Hebrews 13:5 reminds us: “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” These words remind us that God is faithful and His presence is constant, even in the darkest difficulties.
Even when all seems lost, when uncertainty and fear threaten to extinguish your faith, remember that God is your refuge and strength. Do not give up. Do not let despair extinguish your hope. Cry out to God with all your being and trust that He, in His perfect time, will bring the answer you need.
God alone can give you the peace that surpasses all understanding, the peace the world cannot offer. Even when the storm rages and difficulties persist, His presence will be enough to sustain you. And when you look back, you will see that in every moment of anguish, God was there—guiding, protecting, and providing for all your needs.
So, no matter how difficult your situation is today, remember: don’t give up! God is faithful and never abandons those who trust in Him.
